Though this summer had some fine moments, a greater number were filled with disorienting encounters and stress. To that end, I splurged on myself to the tune of $899.00 and purchased a trip to Panama at the end of July.
It was the rainy season but that in no way took away from the beauty of the region. I curated some moments in the following video. You will find that I used a beautiful song “Lumen” by Danilo Perez, Panamanian jazz pianist, John Patitucci and Brian Blade as the soundtrack. The song combines Latin jazz, rhythms of The Congo and hope in song. There is also a short excerpt from an interview where Perez discusses artistic inspiration.
I send much love to the people of Panama- you are beautiful and you welcomed a world-weary student of experience. I know not the Spanish language, but you were patient with me and made me feel welcome-THANK YOU PANAMA.
May every graduate student this fall 2019/20 academic year find affirmation, peace, renewal and inspiration.
